Hemorrhoids are something that mean very little to someone until they get them. Then, they become something that everyone that has ever had them wants gone, and fast. Hemorrhoids can be very painful, itchy, and {prone to bleeding}. It can make it painful to do anything, like sitting, standing, or even walking sometimes.
There are several different reasons that hemorrhoids develop. The most common ones are when you strain when you sit on the toilet, have stools that are hard, as a result of pregnancy and childbirth, coughing too much, or lifting heavy things. Alternatively, sitting for prolonged periods of time, most especially when on the toilet will cause them as well.
Hemorrhoids can be both inside your body or outside, and they are called to as internal and external hemorrhoids. Typically, the cases that are external cause the most pain and itching. External hemorrhoids can sometimes become strangulated, meaning they become cut off from the blood supply. When a blood clot forms, this is referred to as a thrombosed hemorrhoid, and they have to be removed during surgery.
Preventing hemorrhoids is usually easier than curing them if they are not overly severe.
If you are constipated often, try using a stool softener, or eat a good dose of fiber every day. You can eat fiber in whole grains, cereal, fruits, and green leafy vegetables. You can also try fiber supplements like Citrucel and Metamucil. You also need to drink eight glasses of water each day.
Try to avoid sitting for long time periods. If you have to sit at your job, remember to take frequent breaks and walk around. If you drive places by car on long trips, take rest breaks and stretch your legs occasionally. Do not stay on the toilet for too long either. Read in a proper seat, not on the toilet!
Many times, to free yourself from hemorrhoids, just avoiding rectal strain and eating more fiber and using stool softeners is all you have to do.
You can get creams over the counter that contain hydrocortisone that will help with swelling, pain, and itching of hemorrhoids. Typically, this is used to treat external hemorrhoids. For hemorrhoids that are located internally, there are suppositories that can be purchased that can be inserted in the rectum to help the pain and swelling.
If hemorrhoids are bad, sometimes they need to be removed by a doctor. However, due to the severe discomfort and risk of complications, this method is not very desirable. For thrombosed hemorrhoids, surgery may be your only alternative, however. In some procedures, the veins have to be stapled back into place. Recovery is often uncomfortable, just like the procedure sounds. Ouch!
You can also have your hemorrhoids eliminated with a laser. Often, this has to be done over many treatments.
Since medical treatments for saving yourself of hemorrhoids can have some severe risks and pain, lots of people search for self treatments for hemorrhoids. Getting rid of hemorrhoids does not have to be risky or expensive.Natural cures are just as good, and they can be done at home.
